The City of York’s 275th Anniversary

Founded in 1741, the city of York, Pennsylvania - named for York, England - was the birthplace of the Articles of Confederation, held the first national day of Thanksgiving, and was the Capitol of the United States for nine months in 1778. It was here in York that the words "The United States of America" were first spoken. In the 275 years since its founding, York has been part of the growth of this nation as well as the growth of its inhabitants.

So we will celebrate the 275th Anniversary of the founding of the City of York with a year-long slate of events and happenings throughout the City and in conjunction with our community partners Downtown Inc, the Cultural Alliance, the York County Heritage Trust, the York Revolution, the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center, and York College of Pennsylvania.
